York Street Civil is owned and operated by John Shank, P.E. in Napa, CA. John was raised by a General Contractor, he spent his formative years working on every aspect of residential construction; masonry, carpentry, siding, roofing, grading and concrete work. As a result of being familiar with the industry, along with his love and appreciation of building homes, especially for first-time home owners, he decided to attend the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) and become a Civil Engineer.

Since graduating, John has acquired 20+ years of project management and design experience in Land Development and Water Resources completing over 100 projects for more than 50 different municipalities throughout the Bay Area.

John began his engineering journey designing drainage elements for landfills, oftentimes coupled with 6 to 12 month-long construction oversight positions in destinations that included: West Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, Kentucky and Indiana. When John switched coasts and earned his P.E., he worked as a Senior Engineer at such powerhouses as BKF and Kimley Horn, with work, ranging from single-family residences to multi-million dollar commercial projects.
